At one point, reporter Anne Currie said: "I know you say something very interesting. You said, 'If it had to happen it is good it happened at a Boy Scout Camp.' Why would you at the age of 13 say such a thing?"
Boy Scout Ethan Hession, 13, replied:
"Because we were prepared. We knew that shock could happen. We knew that we need to place tourniquets on wounds that were bleeding too much. We knew we need to apply pressure and gauze. We had first-aid kits, we had everything. We knew about this. We knew how to do. We had staff all around that had been trained for this. And if it had happened anywhere else, there wouldn't be that much that the people know."
"All of a sudden people just started taking action. Like it just clicked. There was one of the staff members who took off his shirt and put it right on the guy who was bleeding and told me to get on top of him so he would stop moving so he could apply pressure..."
Taylor Willoughby, 13, was asked why he felt he had seen heroism:
"It was just how fast that these people reacted and how they reacted. It was just amazing to me. Because you would not expect that of normal 13-year old boy, but being Boy Scout, we were Boy Scouts and we knew what we were doing."
This is why we are Scouts.
